Pre-Season Bike Maintenance:
There are a number of items that should be checked on a bike each year. Bike maintenance before the season really helps our coaches get the athletes riding instead of doing trail side repairs. Racing puts unique stresses on bikes and maintenance will reduce a mechanical issue.
Here are a few items that wear out and need regular replacement:
- Sealant in tubeless tires (it dries out and should be replaced at the start of each season)
- Chains
- Brake pads
- If your bike has a suspension fork or rear shock, the air pressure should be adjusted for the rider’s weight. If the suspension is not holding air it likely needs maintenance (new seals etc…). This kind of maintenance often takes more time and is best accomplished off-season.
High School PE Exemption Registration
- Washoe County School District implemented a program in 2025-2026 that allows high school students to receive an exemption from taking PE at school. For 60 hours of activity you will receive 0.5 PE exemption credits. This program allows you to fulfill the PE requirement for graduation but you will still be required to take another elective credit to replace the actual PE class. If you have any further questions I recommend please discuss this with your counselor.
- Register for the PE Exemption program using the link below. Once registered please print and keep the sheet and document every practice you attend. Once you fill up all 20 spaces please take a screen shot and email it to coach Jana so she can sign off on it. The logging form is on the link below.
- The Galena Mountain Bike Team is a qualified activity for the exemption and student/athletes must register online and once approved you can then start logging hours after school begins. Unfortunately hours in July don’t count.
- The registration portal is open at: https://www.washoeschools.net/directory/extended-studies/courses-offered/physical-education-pe-options
