Galena MTB is not just a team, it is a family. In reality, without the help of families there is no way the team could exist. Please consider how you can help your athlete and the team to succeed. A few options include:

  • Coaching
  • Race Support
  • Team Meal Support
  • Trailwork
  • Fund Raising
Coaching:
  • Our team is coached by volunteers. We can always use more coaches and all ability levels are welcome. The team does three practice rides a week and each practice requires 15-20 coaches to split athletes into ride groups.
  • NICA offers a comprehensive training program for new and returning coaches. The program provides the education and resources to ensure confident, competent, and empowered coaches. Level 1 NICA coaching certification requires about 4 hours of online training, completing a background check and paying a $25 license fee. Level 2 and 3 coaches have additional training and must maintain wilderness first aid and CPR training. Serving as a coach is a rewarding way to inspire the next generation of athletes. Our coaches have just as much fun as our student-athletes!
  • Coaches also receive benefits and discounts from NICA and local sponsors.
Race Support:  Races take an enormous amount of volunteers to pull off. Parents are encouraged to find a way to make each race a success. Opportunities include:
    • League Volunteers are needed for race course set-up, parking attendants, course marshals, timing, staging athletes prior to each race, medical support, riders to sweep the course, etc… You can sign up for league race support from the Fall Races Series webpage.
  • Team Volunteers are needed to support the Team Tent in the Pitzone area. This includes: setting up the tent, helping supervise athletes and answer questions, providing food and snacks to keep everybody fueled, and bottle hand-ups during races. Some races also have Saturday night team dinners that also need to be coordinated and cooked. Contact Ashlie Teixeira-Smith, Team Director, via chat in Team Snap if you have questions. Volunteer sign-ups are sent out via Team Snap and links are maintained on Team Links tab.
Team Meal Support: A few times a season we celebrate with team meals. Volunteers are often needed to pick up food and bring it to the venue. Other meals are potlucks where volunteers can bring food or help cook food for the team.

Trailwork: Galena MTB adopted the Lower Whites Creek Trail in 2025. The team works with Washoe County a couple times per season to cut back vegetation and make trail repairs. Athletes and their whole family are welcome to pitch in and help.

Fund Raising: Volunteers are needed to assist with fund raising to help the team buy equipment such as radios, first aid kits, bike racks, team tents, etc… We could use a volunteer to drum up support form local businesses.
